Lineside Features

One of the most extraordinary things we discovered about the Devil's Dyke Railway on our visit, was the fact that a huge quantity of the lineside features were still in situ. We found the bases of signals and also the majority of the route is still in place and relatively unaltered, geographically.

However, what really stood out in this respect was the sheer amount of Line-side Fencing that was still in position along the edges of the track bed.

I am probably not alone in thinking that such items are of little significance and that they would be among the first things to be removed or replaced by patrons of surrounding land. This is not the case! The photos below show many examples along the route, of the remains of Lineside Fencing as it exists today - rusted in places, mangled in others -  but surprisingly still there.
